Bell UH1 Iroquois Magazine

Known universally as the Huey, the chop chop chop sound of that huge slow moving rotor became synonymous with helicopters in general, but especially with the operations of the US Army's airborne cavalry in the Vietnam era. The design began with a US Army requirement for a medical evacuation and utility transport helicopter in 1952, but was to serve in roles far beyond these. From its first flight on October 20 1956, the Huey was to become a troop transport, assault aircraft and armed attack helicopter as well as its originally intended roles, but this was just the start for the adaptable and flexible aircraft.
